Reddick wins NASCAR playoff race plagued by tyre failures in long, tiring Texas day

Tyler Reddick survived a chaotic NASCAR Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway, taking victory from Joey Logano as several title contenders stalled due to punctures.

Reddick could be eliminated from the play-offs, but the Richard Childress Racing driver has stopped going for his third win of the season after tending to his car at the race home, which was interrupted by 16 cautions and red flags.

Numerous punctures hampered the race, especially for title contenders Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell.

Also early in the race, Joe Gibbs Racing's Bell crashed at Turn 4 after having his second explosion in the race on lap 137, finishing 34th.

Logano's runner-up placed him at the top of the points total as an extraordinary streak continued this season with none of the current playoff contenders recording a win since the format began.

Justin Haley, also outside the playoffs, finished third, his best result since the Darlington rounds in May, ahead of title contenders Ryan Blaney and Chase Briscoe.

With Eric Jones in sixth, William Byron finished the top 10 despite the carnage, seven places ahead of Brad Keselowski and defending NASCAR Cup champions Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin.

Elliott dropped to 7th overall and Bell dropped to 11th, but Alex Bowman also climbed back up to 29th and is now 12th overall.
